Vincent and Theo

Reading the biography of Vincent van Gogh, I was deeply moved by the relationship between Vincent and his brother Theo. Their bond was profound and mutual, sustaining both of them through the challenges of life and art. Theo offered Vincent unconditional emotional and financial support, believing in his talent even when the world did not. In turn, Vincent shared his struggles, hopes, and artistic vision through letters, often revealing his mental and emotional turmoil. Theo’s letters responded with constant encouragement, practical advice, and unwavering faith, reassuring Vincent that his art had value and inspiring him to continue despite despair.

Even as Vincent battled illness, he continued creating, motivated by Theo’s belief in him. Their connection was so strong that when Vincent died in 1890, Theo passed away just six months later. They were buried side by side in Auvers-sur-Oise, a lasting testament to their deep bond.
