What a wonderful day ☀️
Lately, I’ve been humming the song “What a Wonderful World.” Its gentle melody and simple lyrics offer a profound philosophy of life — a way of living that embraces beauty, presence, and gratitude in every moment. This philosophy pairs beautifully with the widely used Perfect Day Exercise in personal development, which I like to call the Wonderful Day Exercise.
If you choose to, you can begin your wonderful day from the very moment you wake up — even before you open your eyes. Savor and appreciate every small moment, every little experience life offers.
I see trees of green, red roses too I see them bloom for me and you
I see skies of blue and clouds of white The bright blessed day, the dark sacred night
I hear babies cry, I watch them grow They'll learn much more than I'll ever know And I think to myself, what a wonderful world
The colors of the rainbow, so pretty in the sky Are also on the faces of people going by I see friends shaking hands, saying, "How do you do?" They're really saying, "I love you"
These lyrics remind us to slow down and cherish every experience — not in grand achievements, but in everyday things: skies, roses, handshakes, and the sound of a baby’s breath….
The Wonderful Day Exercise
The Wonderful Day Exercise (or Perfect Day Exercise) is a tool used in coaching, therapy, and self-reflection. It helps you imagine your ideal day, from the moment you wake up to the moment you fall asleep. It’s not about fantasy or escape. It’s about clarity — tuning into what really matters to you and designing a life that reflects your values, energy, and joy.
This exercise is simple: you imagine your ideal day from start to finish, with no filters, no limitations. You give yourself full permission to dream. It’s about clarifying what truly matters and taking the steps to align your life with those desires and natural rhythms.
To use this tool, simply take a quiet moment to imagine your ideal day — as if everything in your life is aligned with what you truly want. Picture where you wake up, what your morning looks like, how you spend your time, who you’re with, and how you feel throughout the day. Write it all down in the present tense, including small details like sounds, smells, and sensations. This isn’t about fantasy; it’s about gaining clarity on what a fulfilling life looks like for you, so you can start making small changes to bring it closer to reality.
Maybe try this today: When you wake up, see if you can hear the birds singing, the breathing sound of your loved one sleeping next to you, the ray of sunshine coming through the window, or the sip of water in your hand….
And maybe, just maybe, you’ll think to yourself…
What a wonderful world.
